Obama Conservatives

2008 October 24

Whether you want to call them Obama Republicans, Obamacans or Obamacons, they are making themselves known. For all inclusive purposes, I’ll be calling them Obama Conservatives. This term appropriately captures the so called “true” conservatives who have libertarian ideals.

Anyways, the Obama Conservatives are making themselves known lately in the news. With the election campaigns winding down, newspapers and prominent individuals are making their picks public. Sure, The New York Times chose Obama. And so did The Washington Post, but that was expected. But the expected shocker was Colin Powell finally endorsing Barack. And he was the biggest and respected name out there on the right to do so. Who else lent their support for Barack? Well let’s take a roll call:

Lincoln Chafee, Former Senator of Rhode Island

Susan Eisenhower, Granddaughter of Susan Eisenhower and President of the Eisenhower Institute

Julie Nixon Eisenhower, Daughter of Richard Nixon

Christopher Buckley, Author and Son of William F. Buckley Jr.

Christopher Hitchens, Author

Jim Leach, Former Congressman

David Ruder, Chairman of the SEC Under Reagan

Arne Carlson, Former Governor of Minnesota

Richard Riordan, Former Mayor of Los Angeles

Lilibet Hagel, Wife of Chuck Hagel

Rita E. Hauser,  Former White House Intelligence Advisor for George W. Bush
